I know a couple places....
Niles West High School does a show that's really cool and has a nice atmosphere. They throw shirts and have food. They have quite a few different fireworks and they even give you 3D glasses which really enhance the way you see the fireworks.

If I were you, I would incline my head upwards in an unobstructed area at night, and look for a bright set of colors expanding and then disappearing, followed by a pattern that repeats itself in this manner for 15-20 minutes. That, my friend, will be fireworks!
