Yes, I listened to sad love songs when I was working thru my heartache. These songs made me feel my sadness, anger, disappointment, extreme hurt. I cried buckets but it was very healing........... I was in essence processing my hurt feelings and working thru them. Somehow these feelings must make thier way OUT of you, out of your psyche, so you can move on and be happy again...........I used sad love songs and a writing journal.

Just listen to the words of Elton John and Bernie Taupin:
Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio
`Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know
Turn them on, turn them on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on
They reach into your room
Just feel their gentle touch
When all hope is gone
Sad songs say so much
If someone else is suffering enough to write it down
When every single word makes sense
Then it's easier to have those songs around
The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you
and it feels so good to hurt so bad
And suffer just enough to sing the blues
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say so much

I listen to a ot of music that is serious and often talks about heart ache and the like. I listen to Creed, Shinedown, Nickelback, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alter Bridge, and Bo Bice. All these artists cover serious topics and are a good way to let out emotion. On the other hand, I don't mind so liter music like Hilary Duff, John Mayer and stuff like that. Both are helpful.

I think it depends on the person. I believe that if you are truly upset then the sad songs will just make it worse, and can even cause depression. Writing is one of the best things to do when upset over a break-up. Get alot of paper and write, write, write about every good, bad, sad, angry feelings you have and why. Then write out how you wanted things to turn out. You'll prolly cry VERY HARD but it will get your true feelings out. Whereas by listening to music you're just agreeing with how someone else puts how you feel into words, while your true feelings are stewing inside of you. You gotta express your pain in your own unique way in my opinion.

i think songs actually make things worse
many are about how terrible the end was
or how bad the lover or how this orthat but in a negative tone. or it can be songs that are exactly what one is feeling and make one feel worse.
I dont recommend you do that. Listen to other non romantic songs, and why must you punishe yourself to go through a lot of pain to make yourself stronger emotionally? you won't by listening to songs.
but do allow for the grieving period to go by
you must grieve, before you heal and yr heart is mended
it will happen be peatient.

my relationship of two years came to a rocky end this past thursday and quite frankly, i hate sappy slow love songs...but i made a cd full of them. every time i get in the car (usually to drive around and see if i can 'bump into him somewhere'-how pathetic huh) i have 'end of the road' by boys2men playing. it fits my situation almost perfectly and i have even put it on repeat. its all ive listened to when i can actually stand to listen to anything for the past 6 days. so yeah, i guess i do listen to the stuff that relates to me, but im not sure that it makes you stronger. im debating that myself. i am coming to the point where i am beginning to think it is keeping be down and not letting me move on...

Depends on individual. Sometimes it doesn't make you stronger emotionally and instead it let you burst into tears especially you love the other party deeply

I do that sometimes. But for me I listen to things that do remined me of, well, the past. I don't like letting things go. But for your advice I'd say that you should do it. Don't be like me. Let go and then throw.
