no,its a fantastic idea if you want to get really buff!did you know that most bodybuilders start training when they are in there teens but you must realise that there is no point working on muscles if they are covered in a layer of fat because unless you lose fat they will remain unseen and if you are overweight you should not lift weights as you will only make yourself look even bulkier.for lots of tips on gaining muscle checkout www.discussbodybuilding.com and for both fat loss and muscle gain without supplements checkout www.burnthefat.com .good luck from joleen

Hi i wouldnt start doing the weights at 14 or even 17. Your body is still developing and stops at about 18 anyway. Most gyms only allow over 18's in the weights section. Your muscles and bones are still developing and you could do some damage because you havent stopped growing yet. If your self concious about what you look like- dont be. You can start doing the weights and get into it more in a few years. x

The 17-year old should be fine. For the 14-year old, it depends on whether he's hit his pubertal growth spurt. If he hasn't, then lifting light to moderate weights would probably be okay, but I wouldn't recommend trying to bulk up with heavy weights. Heavy lifting puts a lot of stress on the bones and your bones will respond by hardening. If you are putting a lot of stress on your growth plates, your body may respond be fusing your growth plates early resulting in stunted growth.

Make sure its mostly free weights. The machines deactivate the stabilizing muscles, which leads to eventual over exertion and injury.
It is best to do high rep, lower weight with free weights and to focus on cardio.

at 14 you're still developing and doing weights could mess up that process. I'd stay off them for a couple of years yet mate.

If you are doing small repetative weights, then no, but if you are talking heavy wieghts to increase size, then yes.

You haven't fully developed yet, weight training could influence your growth.

You shouldn't be loading your skeleton too much while it is still growing, so keep the weights small.
And don't go near steroids.
