*sigh*....ok first off, the Norton issue. Norton sucks up a LOT of your computer resouces, making it a lot slower. it can also be retarded sometimes, if you're trying to install programs or whatnot, certain things it doesn't like and absolutely will not allow , no matter how much you want to. not to mention that its very expensive. McAfee, i've never used that much, it seems ok, just very expensive. personally i use the AVG as mentioned above, one of the best out there. its user-friendly, thorough, it does its job, and it actually listens to you, as opposed to Norton second-guessing you and telling you what you can and can't do with your computer. the free version of AVG is definitely capable of protecting your computer as it is, and highly recommended. i would also suggest that you get an anti-spyware/adware program. and yes, you can run more than one at a time without them trying to kill each other. i have 3 running right now. for adware/spyware, a good free program is Lavasoft's Ad-Aware,

if you run that and AVG, you should be covered from everything except a midget with a sledgehammer...dunno what to tell you on that one. another really good anti-spyware program, ZoneAlarm Firewall. it's a firewall, anti-spyware and anti-adware. the only downside is, it has a subscription service that is really hard to crack, and i'm not sure if they have free trials or whatever. if you want to pay for something, i would recommend that and the full version of AVG. if you just want whatever you can get free, go with AVG free and Ad-Aware.

NO ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM IS 100% EFFECTIVE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE MORE THAN ONE. BUT ONLY RUN ONE AT A TIME BECAUSE THEY SEE EACH OTHER AS A THREAT AND YOUR COMPUTER COULD CRASH.
THE MOST EFFECTIVE PROGRAM IS THE ONE YOU USE AND KEEP UPDATED. SOME WILL SAY NORTON IS BEST. SOME WILL SAY AVG OR MCAFEE OR TREND MICRO. IT'S ALL PERSONAL PREFERENCE. KINDA LIKE WHICH IS BETTER..... A FORD OR A CHEVY. YOU'LL GET ALL KINDS OF ARGUMENTS ON THAT, TOO!

The most effective is the one that you use daily and it gets updated regularly. I'm a big fan of the AVG program. It gets updated all the time and its free for personnel use. This means you stay current and your protection does not lapse after you stop paying blood money to the other guys.
