I keep working at it, but the weeds seem to appear almost overnight.

technically what we call weeds are wildflowers...the "weeds" are mother natures way of feeding animals/insects and since they are not cultivate by humans they have adapted to their surroundings and do fine without help from us....many prefer the hot dry humid weather or just hot weather
what we call flowers on the other hand are "domesticated" and need our help to grow
if you ever notice most "weeds" will have a flower on them

I dont like bluebells...what we call a weed but there are ppl that do
queen anne's lace is considered a weed here yet ppl inother regions will die to get a start of the plant or seeds

every plant has a purpose like mother nature intended

like in summer when it turns off dry the grass goes dormant if without water for a while and crabgrass will grow....crabgrass can help prevent erosion in case of a sudden downpour when the regular grass is dormant but after a good rain the lawn grass will green up again

Weeds grow from seeds that are able to begin germinating as soon as your soil warms up in the spring. Flowers, either seed or seedling, don't get that headstart. They don't have the advantage of time and a better root system. Try to sprinkle Preen right after weeding and better yet, very early in the spring. Also, water before you weed to get the whole root out. Breaking weeds off and leaving the root just strengthens the weed's root. Good luck...and remember, many weeds can be considered wildflowers. That always makes me feel better.
