meee...

'Supes Returns' is a re-tread of the first movie's plot - the only thing new is the romantic sub-plot, which is a good one, but that's it. There was zero dramatic tension; in other words, we were simply watching it all unfold.

And there was zero Wow. For 270 mil I expect some Wow, and I saw it in 3-D IMAX! Note on that: the middle-field of the 3-D was often under-sized, which made things like trucks look like toys.

And a really large mistake was not establishing how super this man was. Routh is shown in his big Clark-suit then the first time we see him as Superman, it's CGI! It seemed like those Fleisher cartoons, after all, and every time his muscles were too-bulging. Upon seeing Routh again after that in the costume, my thoughts were, is this another one of those padded costumes? -- which is the man, which the effects?

The powers: where were they? Nearly everything was catching, throwing, and flying, as if the film's reduplification of "iconic" 30's comics covers is supposed to make us feel all exited in and of itself. The X-Ray Vision and Super-Breath were thrown away on unimaginative uses and the Heat Vision came out once in an only mildly interesting manner.

So, we were subjected to rising heroic fanfares frustratingly accompanying very pedestrian action and effects. The first 45 minutes ground forward establishing canon with overly-painstaking effort and over-long scenes. omg and what brainiacs voted to retain the original's "lighthearted" 70's cutesy-humor? ...the very aspect that prevents the original from playing well to a modern audience!

The other theater-goers in our showing seem to have agreed. Here we were, opening-day IMAX Supes-geeks with shirts n stuff, and after the film there was only scattered 'pity-applause'!

I'm here to announce the actor chosen to bear the S-Shield has zero charisma. That's about all there is to say about it.

And this was not any person's idea of Lois Lane. Jeez. No spine. No snark. No brains...what's up? Unlike some younger actors, Bosworth seems unable to play older or savvy.

Not only do I have no interest in seeing this again, I wish I hadn't gone through the unpleasant experience.

You won't vote me best answer cuz I'm about to disagree with you, but whatever.

***** SPOILERS AHEAD, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE *******

Dude I'll tell you what. It wasn't as good as Batman Begins (frankly what is?) but it was pretty good. I wasn't disappointed and I wasn't overly blown away. But I'd give it about a 8/10. If you look at Rotten Tomatoes, though it's rating is what 85%, the average score is like 6.7/10. It means mostly people liked it, but they didn't think it was the movie of all movies.

They got a lot of things right -- the opening credits (I decided to buy the DVD 12 seconds into the movie), the pose with the car over his head (first comic book pose), the music, the end scene, the air plane action stunt, Perry saying Great Ceaser's Ghost. Jimmy was good, the jokes were really good and adult (I've already done Superman) -- I think ppl in our theatre were laughing a lot, and they used a lot (all?) of his powers and none of his made up powers (superkiss = memory loss, I can suddenly disappear and reappear somewhere else). The special effects were probably the best I've ever seen...I mean damn it was sick. And I can't see anybody else play Superman besides this Brandon Routh guy (thank God they didn't cast Nicholas Cage...he was one of the possibles for the role earlier on). Oh and I think everyone was glued to the screen in the scene where they beat the crud out of Superman and stab him twice, I thought that was sick.

Bad plot? In all Superman movies it's very hard to find a foil to a hero who is pretty much invulnerable. What are their options? Either Luthor tries to destroy the world and he uses kryptonite (Sup 1 and 3) or they find a super hero bad person (Sup 2 and 4). I agree the gameplan for Lex was pretty random (haha new beach front territory) but better than Sup 1, 3, and 4.

Superman stalking Lois was creepy? I didn't really feel the creepy thing people are sayin. He loves her, apparently they had a baby so there's gotta be some attachment. He comes back she's gone. I mean he just checked her place out and thats it. I thought they handled this well.

Kate was horrible? Kate Bosworth didn't look the part of Lois to me (tho I guess she does looks sorta like Margot Kidder), but I guess ppl liked her 10 times better than Scientology girl from Batman. But I thought she acted pretty well, and I could get used to it...

****END SPOILERS*****

PS Spiderman 3 trailer was SICKK.

a million. Superman is barely indestructible to greater elementary weapons, no longer each and every person has some superweapon or weaponized kyptonite sitting around. And neither can many use magic. with the intention to the common guy or woman Superman could be indestructible to them. 2.i replaced into no longer conscious Superman replaced into to uphold the morals of the ruling type. Superman replaced into all approximately fact, Justice and the yank way. inspite of the reality that he seems much less with reference to the yank way presently and greater approximately fact and Justice. project is most of the ruling elite are corrupt regulation breakers themselves. This via strikes ought to lead them to Superman's enemies to boot. I blame this on the writers, who normally have no thought of what it ability to extremely be a ethical Absolutist. 3. If Superman have been to purpose and fly around and attach each and every thing this is faulty, he'd never get any the place. there is a lot incorrect interior the international no person guy ought to restoration all of it, no longer even Superman. some circumstances human beings basically ought to take concerns into their very own palms and do the terrific suited element. Even Superman desires some high quality me time. 4. I have no thought what you're attempting to assert right here.

Did not go...will not go...refuse to knowingly support any institution that disavows America. Superman is an American icon, property of an American Co, made by an American film maker, same film maker was afraid they would lose money by stating the Superman logo of fighting for truth justice and the American way. Totally ignored because the film is World Wide. I consider this an insult to our country.

I found the movie to be extremely boring. The only thing I enjoyed was at the end when I saw his bare chest. Thats all I wanted after watching the first 30min of the movie. When will I see him w/o a shirt? And I did, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Thats about the highlight for me. Other than that, dull!

I hated it but probably for different reasons than you. I don't want my kids hero being some guy that knocked up a girl and didn't get married first. Not a great role model in my openion.
