Spray w/liquid Seven or dust w/ Seven dust. You may have to repeat after a rain, but it will get rid of them. You may also want to consider treating your lawn for grubs. This is the beetle in the larvae form.

DO NOT USE SALT unless you want to make the soil barren for years to come.

Sevin will kill the beetles but won't do your dog any good. Sevin is chemical pesticide.

Here is a better choice:

Diatomaceous Earth (is isn't actually earth) is a product that is harmless to humans and pets but will definitely kill your beetles. It will kill anything with an exoskeleton including beetles, roaches, ants, aphids, all your basic bugs.

Buy it here: http://www.perma-guard.com/ because theirs is "food grade" which is what you want. You can try a local garden center but be sure that you only get a food grade product--you do not want the other kind.

If they are the iridescent kind, they are probably Japanese beetles and they are very hard to kill. Because of their hard shell, most chemicals don't work. You will have to use something systemic or pick them off and put the in a far to kill them. If you try to just step on them, they will fly away. I keep a jar to put them in. I usually add a little bug killer. When they crawl on it, it will kill them.

your only hope is to burn every single piece of vegetation in a 5acre area.or live with them. let me introduce my self, i am the presiding chair person of LET BEETLES BE BEETLES. i can reassure you that they have found a virtue in your family and will probably be calling your place home for scores of generations.
