Obviously dell... their revenues were like in excess of $20 Billion and they are only getting bigger and innovative... they have the better more affordable laptops!

Dell... I have had both and my Compaq (now like 4 years old) was not good, in the shop a lot and the service wasn't great, to get it fixed, we had to take it out of town and wait 2 weeks on it. Dell has much better service, if you ever need it (I have once when my laptop was banged up against the wall, and they came right out and repaired it).

my husband who is in the Army hates Dell! They are constantly having to send them in for service and having issues. I have a Compaq that my husband has taken to the middle east (heat and dust) twice and always ran like brand new! The one you didn't ask was HP which owns Compaq. And oddly enough i am using an HP right now and we HATE it. with in 30 days of purchase the motherboard went out and had to be sent back to the company. now the speaker cuts in and out. and from the perspective of my husband who plays WOW it has been a disappointment cause it won't allow him to download the program. it isn't a base model.

wow....all of you are crazy. NEITHER! get someone who knows what they're doing to build you a laptop. all those ones suck, they are rip offs. if a dell breaks the only way it can be fixed is if you send it back to the dell people, they fix it, charge you a fortune and then send it back. get your own made by a pro. dont get either of those 2.

Dell all the way!!!, Compaq is a very well, nice computers if you but a lot in them, but they are really junky other wise ex. 4200 hardrive RPM
