My girlfriend is American and she was going to move here but we want other options. What do I need to do to move there (America). How long can I stay, can I work, can I get a 1 way ticket?

I am currently in a similar situation, I want to go out to the states to be with my boyfriend, I have read and re read the Visa information for all different types of Visa, and it gives me a headache as there is so much information.

You can either get your girlfriend to apply for a fiancee visa for you when that goes through the USA system you will get called to the embassy in UK for interview - you have to prove lots of stuff though such as you have met in the last 2 years and show them emails and stuff. i think that is a K1 visa you then have to get married within 3 months of your entry to the States.

the other option as far as i can see is to try and get out on a H1 visa. you need to try and find a job that is willing to sponsor you etc and is not easy - i am finding that out now, there is a cap of about 65,000 H1 visas a year - someone correct me if i am wrong.

hope that helps a bit let me know how you get on as any info you can find may help me too.

Good luck - i know what its like!!

If you marry her, you won't become a citizen, but you can get a green card.

but you need to do it right, apply for permission and wait 3 to 6 months.
If you just decide to get married without permission so you can stay, they are going to watch you and bother you more than if you did it the proper way.
