Many of these people have never met an average run of the mill gay couple. They form judgements based on media and the hearsay of other people. I can't see how anyone who has ever met a monogamous gay or lesboan couple, who go to work, pay taxes, walk their dog, wash their car and do everything that a "norma" straight couple do would ever be opposed to it.
Religon plays a large factor yes, but even then, mariage is not a religous institution, it's a legal one. You don;t need a church to marry, but you do need proper legal documentation. It is not against nature either. Almost all species of animals engage in homosexual acts, they just don;t marry. Very few species mate for like however, and monogamy is rare in the animal kingdom. Truthfully speaking, monogamy is more unnatural than homosexuality, but I believe in monogamy and support it lol.
Many people have a very hard time dealing with change. It has happened so many times in the past, this is just another step in equality of all human beings. It is a struggle but not an impossible one. And it will take time, but it will happen.

You have a very open view of the issue, and I for one applaud you. Some people read the bible very literally, while others read it with an eye towards understanding the context in which it was written and contrasting with the way it speaks to us in our lives today. You can be religious, and still be open to the idea that two people would share the special love of marriage, with God's blessing.
Some very shrewd people have mixed political and social conservatism with religious conservatism, and it makes the whole issue of being a Christian Republican confusing. You can be both, and still not agree with some of the leaders on subjects like Gay Marriage.
I think that a lot of straight people don't understand homosexual love. And like those who interpret the Old Testament, they sometimes confuse homosexual lust with homosexual love. As straight people, they feel that the love they have for their husband or wife is very special and sacred. The are able to feel ok about their LUST, because marriage and love justify it. Since they don't understand that homosexuals can LOVE too, they think that gay sex is just about LUST, and thus allowing marriage would deminish the specialness of their own marriage.
It is pretty twisted, but as much as I wish we could, we can't just make a law and expect people to be open minded and understanding.

as soon as my generation is the main force, gay marriage will probably be legal. it used to be a big deal. people are afraid to accept what they have been told was wrong for so long. my generation accepts it as a fact of life, the older...not all of them do.
I agree with you though. because marriage is about love, not gender
no one in here can tell me that if they didn't love someone they would marry them just because they were a different gender, but f they were the same, and they truly loved them, they wouldn't marry
also, it;'s different in some bibles but in the one I saw, it only makes reference to man "no man shall have sexual relations with a man, as they would a woman" yet makes no reference to women...however right after they reference both men AND women about how beastiality is wrong
the bible was written by men. though I believe that most is the word of god...some it seems is personal preference to the writer
why would god create gay people if he would not love them the same?
in most cases being gay is not a choice. I asked a friend of mine once if it was and he replied
"why would I choose to be someone who is hated?"
gay marriage should be legal...
homosexuality has been around far longer than people thing. The spartan army was influenced to be gay so that they would fight harder for thier lover.
it's impossible for the whole world to become gay if gay people can not reproduce on thiere own...they adopt, another good thing because most straight couples dont. those children need loving homes too!
OK I'm done preaching. have a nice day :D

It has nothing to do with whether or not Homosexuals marry for personal reason. It is the tax implecations, Homosexuals didn't worry about the Idea of marriage until after the Marrige tax penalty was lifted, then there became an economic incentive to be married. to those who make enough money to worry about such things. Suddenly those with no desire for children of their own creation, were looking to adopt and get married. When there was a tax incentive to do so. ( $1000 per child credit and a balance of the marriage tax to help those who actually have childre)n. It is all a Political Game, I support an civil union that alows for the tranference of property and protections such as that for equal partners. but not the tax incentitives that the G/L movement want. Oh yeah in response to other questions about divorce I would make it harder to get a Divorce as well. so that you would have to think prior to getting married and having children to screw up.

I hate when people say things like "What if everybody became gay, then how would the human race continue to live?" That is NEVER going to happen! The majority of humans are straight, so Permitting homosexual marriage is not going to magically cause the end of humanity as we know it. People will still be popping out babies all over the place.
If two consenting adults want to build a life together, who are we to prevent them from doing that? What harm could it really do us? We should be more worried about drug addicts, murderers, and child molesters getting married.

I don't see anything wrong with two people that are in love making a marriage commitment . Love is love. I also don't see a thing wrong with a gay couple adopting , they provide the same things that heterosexual couples do. A loving ,safe, secure environment for children to grow and mature The bible, like the DaVinci code, are both good fiction.

I just answered another question like this, too. Here's what I think. I think the whole 'against gay marriages' thing is about pure hatred and religious persecution. Who says we all have to believe in the same thing? If you religion says being gay is a sin, fine, but what if mine doesn't. It seems that nobody understands that. I'm not worried about it, they can't ignore our voices forever, I'm firm in that belief.
They talk about wanting to protect the 'sanctity' of marriages, that it's a 'religious institute'. Who's yelling at the Atheists who get married? And no, I'm not against Atheists, I'm trying to prove a point. Then they ask "Oh, what's next? Polygamy? Marrying a horse? Pedophiles?" In the bible, men sometimes had 3, 4,5 or MORE wives. Fathers SOLD their YOUNG daughters into servitude, and sometimes they were married. Tell me how this is any different? The LAW sets down age of consent, not the bible, so now they're crossing LAW and GOD'S LAW. Their combining CHURCH and STATE. Isn't that something that's supposed to be SEPARATE?
Sanctity of marriage, that's a joke. Abuse threatens marriage, adultery, threatens marriage. If we follow GOD'S LAW, adultery is a sin, is it not? But you don't see them laying down any laws against cheaters. Why aren't they being stoned to death or some other cruel and violent punishment?
People like to call homosexuality a sin and say it's wrong and you can't do this that and the other, but see how many loopholes they allow for their sins. It's a sin to be drunk, it's a sin to eat shellfish, it's a sin to wear clothes made of 2 different fabrics, isn't it? But these sins aren't quite as bad as the sin of homosexuality, so they feel like they're in the clear?
It's pure ignorance, and hatred, but one day soon it will all stop.
If homosexuality is such a crime-if you can go so far as to call it a crime-it's a painless, victimless crime. Who is it hurting? For those who say it's a sin and we're all going to burn in hell, fine, that's our business to worry about, not yours.

It always seems that the people that are so quick to use the Bible to remind us of what they consider right and wrong, always seem to skip that part about judging other people.
If two people are happy, it's none of my business what they do. Too bad that the people that spend so much time and effort into trying to pass laws to stop gay marriages, don't take that time and effort and try to pass laws that keep child killers and molesters in jail longer. I honestly think people just want to find something to ***** about! If it wasn't about gay marriage, it would be about something else that they have no right to butt into!

annysweety: honest? Lets be honest here... there is no way the entire population could or would BECOME gay because those who are gay could get married and have it recognized as equal to a straight marriage. Your argument is not based in reality. You must be a very young child to have such a silly and unrealistic idea about this subject.
