Actually there is evidence of a great civilization existing in America's past. There have been many strange finds in the jungles of South America that suggest a level of development that is suprising to archaeologists. But, just like archaeologists, they explain away finds that dont mesh with their pre-existing theories. There is a place in Brazil that is basically a huge raised field many miles in length. It's a gigantic earth work that was used to keep crops just a little higher than the water level. This does not fit with the idea that the locals couldn't do anything like that, so it's explained away as a 'geological abnormality'. Since when does the Earth make perfectly straight lines that run on for miles, and form a perfect rectangle.
There's a lot of lore about advanced things being found in South America. Just be careful because there is also some famous charlatans who have promoted some ideas that were used as facts by other writers. Some of these were from Madame Blatvosky. She channeled messages from spirits, supposedly. Now, I'm an Occult kook, but this lady was a fortune seeker and an attention nut. Have fun with your research.

Acually acheaologist a few years ago discovered evidence of a great civilization on Crete distroyed by a combination of volcanoes and conquest that was actually contemporary to the Great Egyptian Empire. Their capital was tentively identified as the mythical city of Minos and archeaologists studying the ruins believe that the laberynth was originally the name for the palace there since it was so large and maze like. There are records from the time of the destruction of this civilization found in ancient Egypt describing some sort of catyclysm befallin a great empire. It is believed that the ruins on Crete and corresponding ruins throughout the Agean are actually the remains of Homeric Greece but since there was almost a 400 year period between the fall of the Agean empires and the rise of Athens and Sparta ect. and since there has been no real evidence of writing or at least organized record keeping; everything was passed down orally by priests originally and possibly bards later.

No not really, Atlantis was suppose to be an Island and is location was outside the "pillars of Hercules" of what is now called the strait of Gilbaltrar. What is not very well know today, is that there was a second place also named by the ancient greeks asThe pillars of Hercules (on the strait of Sicily). So the question is Which pillars is the story refering to? Nobody seems to know.

Atlantis was located in front of Europe, in the Atlantic ocean.

However, if we keep voting for presidents like Bush, we will sink just like Atlantis did.
