time-sometimes every few days or a few weeks-if i stop & turn off car for a few mins it's ok. help

Perhaps you should have it scanned for more possible fault codes. It sounds like your transmission is going into limp mode, and therefore a fault code should be stored in memory. Another possibility is poor connections at the controller and/or solenoid pack. They are very bad for that & often just resizing the pins corrects alot of intermittant concerns.
