The USA is far from number one in the fields of science, technology, and education. We are really lagging behind in all three. There are many other countries that have freedom and democracy so what makes America so great compared to the rest of the world? Why should any of us get up and shout we are number one anymore when by all statistics we are falling behind other industrialized countries?

the US is number one because we took a poll of drowning polar bears affected by global warming and we think their flailing paws were a clear indication of their enthusiasum for this country.
We are number one because of our work ethic. Come on people, you have to work hard to have the highest poverty rate among industralized nations, the worst health care while spending the most on health care out of all the industralized nations! America had to work hard to keep women and African-Americans from voting. You don't just wake up and say, "hey you know what, I need a slave! Get me a slave!" You have to earn a slave.
We are number one because we deliver the most aid to other countries. By aid, I mean weapons, of course. Biggest seller of armaments in the world...is the U.S.!!! Yay for peace!
We are also number one because due to our educational system, we can't count to two. Thank you Jesus!!

We may be lagging in science and mathematics, but in these technological fields, we employ the world's best. And our status comes also from our opportunistic renown, unforgiving economy and military might. We are number 1.

Well if you wish to mock the use of my word which means "to take advantage of opportunities", you do know that conutries is not even a word.

Media particularly in this country makes people think they are the best in everything, big lie. Please try to open your mind and see what other countries have. There are many countries and cultures around the world that have much better things than USA. One little thing: USA has a lot of money and the best weapons. That's enough to make people think they are number one in everything...that's it :)

because inaccurate sloaganeering like "USA #1" is a great way to distract the masses from the realities of your nation's shortcomings.. like inapporpriatelly high levels of poverty, lacking access to healthcare, disasterous foreign policies, the highest level of incarcetration on the planet.. etc.

EDIT:
ps - WRT to earlier answer professing USA to be one of the most generous, poster should check his facts, per capita - the USA is one of the LEAST generous of the industrialized nations, the scale of the USA's largess is only mitigated by the size of your population. The USA is, however, one of the greatest providers of military aid.

Whether you are brain-washed into thinking it, it is learned through trial and error, or you are truly patriotic..... It all boils down to the fact that inhabitants of any country tend to think their particular country is #1. If the US would worry more about our needs as a society, our children, our homeless, our starvation problems, our PEOPLE..... maybe, we could then call ourselves #1 again, but, until that happens- Who really knows why?

Freedom. Freedom of religion, speech, and the freedom to fail and succeed. No other country has offered as much freedom and opportunity for as long.
