Partitioning a hard drive should be done before formatting and installing any software on it. If you try to partition it afterwards, any data on the drive will be lost. Partitioning increases the access speed of the drive somewhat (because it has less to search through) but it doesn't affect the overall system speed.

at the beginning of setting up you OS (operating system) i figure windows. well if you loading it the first time or going to reinstall window it will give you the option to partition your hard drive. this will not make you computer faster so no on that question.

i have mine partitioned with just enough space for my OS and other programs. then the other section is for storing files.
the best reason for doing this is because if your computer ever starts to give you problems or you have to reformat for any reason. it is typically something that happens out of the blue and you never get the chance to save files you don't want to lose.
well when you have it partitioned half for programs and half for files you don't have to format the saved file half of the partition hence saving pictures, music, movies. etc. hope that helps

Best method is to grab Gparted, burn the iso to a small pocket/mini CD, boot up, arrange and format all partitions you desire! Even NTFS!

More partitions doesn't increase the speed... but, all my OSes are each ontheir own partitions, with shared data on firewire drives, and/or seperate partitions/drives.

BTW, do check that your hard drive is single on one IDE 80 strand cable, NOT with the CDrom on a 40 strand cable! The hard drives can transfer at 133mbs, while CDroms slow the buss to only 33mbs.

concerning the quantity of problematical disk area, the in straightforward words ingredient that would want to sluggish your computer down is the dimensions of the change document. With too many walls, you received't have sufficient room on everyone partition to maintain a change document it truly is gigantic adequate to have an value. the different ingredient this would impression is once you defragment your problematical stress. If the quantity of area used is above seventy 5% of the quantity of area accessible interior the partition, your computer will be like a herd of charging turtles operating through molasses. Why not purchase extra problematical drives - both inner or exterior, appropriate through your USB port? it really is what i'd in my opinion advise.

well , it actualy gives you a boost of speed . You can make partitions using partition magic (it requires defragmentation of the hdd before you can be able to make partitions),or you cam make partition when instaling windows 2000/xp. or if you want to use fat32 file system you can make partitions wsing a win 98 boot disk ( use the ''fdisk'' feature). But the best way to make partitions of any kind , and without having to format the disk , is by using partition magik.

Defragmenting the hard disk increases the computer speed, partitioning, means that beside C, D or E, you can divide your hard drive into other " slices" with capacities of your liking.

if u not familiar with dos, then use partition magic - user friendly..

it will not increase the speed of computer, but it allowed you to sort of datas .. another benefits are - allow the search the data faster( because after partition, the search areas are smaller) and for security reason...if virus attack ur c drive, the data in d : will be safe. if no partition, then the datas in all ur Hd will be gone

Drive partitioning can be accomplished by products such as Partition Magic by Norton.

It does not make your computer any faster; most people partition their drive so they can make an area for booting Linux.

Don't ask me, I just picked up my computer from Frys because I thought it was broken when in reality I just plugged the monitor into the wrong socket. I'm really not as dumb as I seem, but maybe a little crazy, I can't deny that. Do you like peanut butter stirred into chocholate ice cream? I know I do. So go pick some daisies and get some fresh air, it's much healthier than sitting infront of the computer. You know it's bad for your eyesight?

Use "Partition Magic". Partition cuts your hdd into seperate parts. 1 part is like 1 hdd.
