Ronaldinho was the best soccer player in the world leading up to the world cup for his performance in Champions League, qualifier for Brazil as well as La Liga with Barcelona. He did not play good in the world cup and that is an absolute fact, however that is not to say anything to his performance leading up to the cup. The best player in the world is selected by FIFA governing body, but votes from fans are also taken into consideration. There was not a fan in the world that would argue this decision before the world cup but many after it.

Well, the choice was made before the World Cup.
In Barcelona, he sure played wonderful, but he also had the better team (for his way of playing) there... More offensive and, most important, more quickly.

Of course, whoever he was, was badly mistaken. But it is not his fault that so many people who know even less about football, believe him and repete what they heard. Same about Rooney, Beckam, Henry,etc.
