As a call center agent, you'll develop your skills in customer service, trouble resolution, multi-tasking, and possibly selling. Think of other skills you can develop in your current job. Then think about where you want to be in 5 years, and develop a plan to get there, including specific goals and timelines. While in your current job, keep track of all your accomplishments (hypothetical example: reduced customer hold time by 23%, resulting in reduced overhead costs). Focus on your achievements and skills, and the sky is your limit! Good luck.

at&t call center agents (service reps) are union jobs with very good salary and benefits but are full time. they have a very good transfer program where you can move yourself to different jobs within the company and to other geographical areas if need be. there is opportunity for advancement for those with a higher education. cingular has part time work but pays a lower salary and is not union, however it may be a good job for a student. there are also relay centers who handle calls from deaf people. i believe they offer part time also. as in any job you can work your way up if you desire from an agent to a manager.

An "Agent" is a just as you called it ... a 'job'. It can be a good stepping stone into the management of the call center, though - which can be a good career.

Good Luck
