Agree or disagree, our stance on Iran enrichment program is going to have a reverse effect in the long run. By insisting that there purposes for there enrichment program, isnt what they really tend to do with it. We are opening the door to new terrorist, whos going to feel that we are keeping there country in the dumps, so to speak, and inact terroeist activities within this country, although were not the only country in on it, but were going to be the ones to blame. Also it may be possible that they really want a new pwer source as they said, to make up for the ones we promised them, which was what some theororize was the reason for terrorist problems in the last decade or so, so I feel we should do all what we can to help them, so that we can show the upincomer terrorist were not all that bad, the oliver branch of peace. This way we can mointor them, and prevent future problems.

thats why i think we should do it for them. Also we need to break our behavior so that we can establish peace, in the middle east, if we keep doing as we been doing, I quruntee there is going to be another war in the mid. east within the next two decades, but if we break our behavior were breaking a chain that all of reality is twisted up in

You know what Geogre Washington sid, je siad "the only way to establish peace, is to be ready for war", so even if they tend to make a weapon, we have more, and I think if every country had just one, this world would be a very peaceful place, cus' we will all be scared into it, scared str8.

I disagree. Iran is experiencing the supply side economic benefits of their oil production right now. They are reaping so much profit that they are able to literally buy the loyalty of the people with benefits and bribes. It is possible that they are seeking to establish a nuclear energy program, but the most likely scenario is that they are enriching for a nuclear weapon. The UN (for what good it will do) has set a July 12 deadline for them to stop or the UN resolution for sanctions will go forward. Iran is not an innocent country. If their history revealed 1) a need for nuclear energy and 2) the restraint necessary to convince the world (not just the United States) that they will not develop nuclear weapons, then there wouldn't be a problem. But, that's not the case.

Iran is potentially a huge problem (not because of its people, but because of the Ayatollahs and the current administration).

They have been given the opportunity to seek peaceful nuclear technology with oversight of the IAEA and the assistance of the EU and Russia, but have denied it, insisting that they do it on their own.

Number one, that's breaking the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty of which they are a signatory, thus opening themselves up for sanctions.

Number two, nuclear technology is dangerous and should be done with the assistance of the scientists that are most knowledgeable in the field who have hands on experience. Not saying Iranian scientists are unintelligent, but the last thing the world needs is another Chernobyl.

Finally, a nuclear-armed Iran is truly a dangerous nation. Again, I strongly support the Iranian people and their attempts at reform and democracy. But, remember this nation is run by a small group of Ayatollahs. The president and parliament operate at their behest. A government that doesn't have to respond to its people is a government that won't worry about its people's safety. Thus, what would stop them, if they get "irate" about something Israel does from nuking Israel and taking nukes in return.

The Ayatollas are a repressive regime that has no regard for the demands of their people - they will sacrifice them if they choose.

Just so you know, I was highly agains the war in Iraq. Mostly because I felt like it was a distraction from true international issues like Iran and North Korea.

This is a serious issue and the world really needs to keep pressure on them.

Disagree.

The problem with Iran is they have been caught in a couple of lies. At first they said that they had no program, then it was discovered they did. Then they said they had no intention of making nuclear weapons, then it was discovered they had components to make a nuclear weapon. Iran is not being forthcoming and open about their intentions.

To make matters worse the president over there said he wanted to wipe Israel and the US off the map. He could have just been saber rattling, but why take the chance.

Several solutions have been offered to them and I believe all have been rejected. I know that Europe and the US just offered a package deal and I think it is being looked over. It was rejected but I believe negotiations are still ongoing. But looking at their past I am not too enthusiastic over them having an unfettered nuclear program.

You are simply trying to get way to deep on a very simple problem.

Do we want to let a country like Iran, to get the technology to develop nuclear weapons?

True though that they may simply want nuclear power for the generation of electricty. At first I thought this was crazy sinec they have all that oil, but then I found out they actually have to import gasoline because they have no refineries. Seems an odd step however, to jump for nuclear power before even building a refinary though.

But if they simply want nuclear power for power's sake, they should accept the deal already propossed to get enriched uranium from outside the country. Why do they have a fixation on developing the technology to develop weapons grade uranium?

Your logic is twisted. Iran has supported terrorists in the past and fought a war against their neighbor in recent history which shows a militaristic bent. They have a government based on a fanatical devotion to a religion that desires world conquest. (much like Christianity). I wouldn't trust 14th century Italy to 'enrich its own uraniam' and I dont trust modern Iran to do it either.
