Because that isn't what he said. That would've been a lie. What he said was that when he was in the senate, he took the initiative to HELP invent the internet. That was the truth. See, Gore, and Gore alone, made it his #1 priority to push for the funding that made possible the internet we know today. Without that government funding, the whole damn thing would probably have been set back 20 years.
So Gore was telling the truth. And Karl Rove (aka the REAL president) and the conservatives were liars.
Big surprise, huh?

I sure hope they know about it, they've been using that for soo long you would think they'd do a quick google.. Plus on this website I'm constantly seeing people disprove them and they continue to use it anyway. I think they know but don't care. They need something to bash people with, it doesn't matter to them if it's factual or not...

Actually your Quote is incorrect. Here is the actual Quote.

BLITZER: I want to get to some of the substance of domestic and international issues in a minute, but let's just wrap up a little bit of the politics right now.

Why should Democrats, looking at the Democratic nomination process, support you instead of Bill Bradley, a friend of yours, a former colleague in the Senate? What do you have to bring to this that he doesn't necessarily bring to this process?

GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.

But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

Notice I am not arguing for or against your point... Just saying that you need to have accurate data.

conservatives exploit anything that will make liberals look stupid. And all the conservative followers eat it up and try to run with it. Conservatives are the most rediculous group of people that seem to live off fear and distain, so it should be no surprise that they would think something so stupid as that Al Gore would actually say that he, alone invented the internet.

But this is probably because some of the conservatives probably think they own the internet for some odd reason, like they think they are always right and never wrong about anything.

Actually what he really said was this:

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."

So he did not say he invented the internet, but he also did not say he HELPED invent the internet. Guess that makes you a liar too.

edit: Why is it that when the Republicans misquote Gore, they're "lying," but when YOU misquote Gore, you're "paraphrasing?"

At least he didn't spell it "potatoe".

Politicians are such egotistical windbags it just makes me want to hurl my lunch into the next county.

What Gore meant by saying he took the initiative to create blah blah blah was " I invented the internet." Al Gore invented everything we use in our everyday lives including global warming. According to him, he also won Florida. Al Gore is the Thomas Edison of Polital Hot Air.

I still believe Al Gore invented global warming, the Internet(s), tobacco, electricity, and oxygen. Go Al! Happy Independence Day!

I thought his #1 priority was the environment. Just how many #1 priorities can you have? I thought the limit was one. Must be "new math".

Thank God we had Al Gore though...there is no way the Internet would have taken off without his efforts. Way to go Al!

Thanks for clearing that up.

You are correct that he did not invent it and that he didn't actually say that he invented it; he actually said that he "created" it. His statement made it sound like he had a MUCH BIGGER role in it than he actually did. Al Gore completely misrepresented his role in the project and tried to take WAY MORE credit than he deserved for the project. Conservatives, Liberals, whatever; they are all politicians and they are all liars. If you want to believe that liberals are somehow more honest than conservatives then go ahead. But I believe that it was a very famous liberal who smoked pot but "didn't inhale" and had an intern suck him off but didn't have "sexual relations". They all lie and if you don't believe that you are just lying to yourself.
