I remember reading about a case where a man was allowed to sell t shirts with an arsenal badge, he won the case and was told he was not in breach of copyright due to a fine point of law, is that still in place? if not, which west ham logos are re-producable without breaching the law?

In my belief, the copyright logo © has to actually be ON THE IMAGE to protect it by copyright -- otherwise use it at will.

You could always go to a Solicitors and ask them quickly
