it's the breather (two bolts and $3) or bad valve seals (overhaul time).

The bad carb crap posted earlier is bs.

I fixed mowers for a pro shop for 5 years.

Almost forgot. The number one reason for this is overfilling the oil. Many of the newer mowers have a DIPSTICK and you are not supposed to fill the whole engine with three quarts of oil. It's amazing how many people do this...probably because for years the system had us fill to the rim of the little oil fill. Do not add too much oil. Your engine has a dipstick. Manual below.

More than likely, your carburator needle is not seating, causing the gas to overflow into the cylinder, mixing with, and raising the engine oil level beyond breather.
Was your fuel tank empty, and oil level high. if so, take it to a shop. The carburator needs servicing.
Or, you stored it tilted, and oil made its way past the rings on the piston.

Could have a bad seating inlet needle and or seat, or a stuck fuel float to gas in the float... causing gas to go into the oil via the breather....

Or you flipped it sideways.

Or you over filled it.
Rings really wouldn't cause a stream.....

NOW badly leaking valve stem seals may cause it as well, but just a light coating....

Add more oil so the engine doesn't lock up.

Rebuild the motor. "The rings are shot".
