If the computer goes, the vehicle goes. And in most cases the computer blowing up in a vehicle will total the vehicle out. Meaning that it's cheaper for the insurance company to pay the vehicle off and get rid of it than it is to fix the computer. I've seen this happen while I was working at a body shop... we'd have brand new off the truck vehicles come in with the computers shot... and the insurance company would just total it out and write the dealership a check.

PCM's (computer) will do a wide range of things, they can cause a complete shut down and may be nothing but a light on and no other problems. I have seen PCM's take a lot of abuse and still run, like shorted out and bad crashes and not hurt them. If you are having trouble I would take the car/truck to a good service shop or dealer for a diagnose, If you take it to Auto zone or something to the effect for a code scan, then they will try to sell a part you may not need.

It depends on the vehicle and what the computer controls. Older vehicles were far less dependent on computers. Newer ones with a computer failure could indeed shut down the vehicle.

I would think the car wouldnt even start if the computer failed, but if your asking if the computer failed while the car was going I think the car would stop because on some cars the computer controls how much fuel it gets and if it doesnt give the car fuel then it would stop
