Yes, that sounds about right. The hospital itself has final documentation which must be done. Some of this includes documents by the funeral home which transports her and does the interment. It can take weeks for this paperwork to get back to the hospital, after the backlog elsewhere. The doctors' notes must be dictated and routed to medical records department to get into the chart. Any coroner or pathology report done has to wait for lab results, then be included in the chart. Amassing all the paperwork is a complicated and lengthy process, plus the medical records department then has to chase down everyone who has an entry, making sure they sign or initial it. Doctors can be notorious for taking forever to sit down and sign off on all their paperwork. Then, there is the copying of the record for you, which will be in a waiting line, as medical records departments have multiple requests daily, and only so many employees, who are also seeing to things that have to be done immediately in order to serve patients who are currently in the hospital. So yes, that's a fair estimate, timewise.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. Please accept my condolences. May God be with you, and help ease yours and your family's pain.

Sorry to hear off your sad loss it is very hard to lose your mother.

God bless you and your family circle at this time.

Access to personal information data under the data protection Act 1998 - 2000 has a set guideline and your authority has to supply all the relevant information within 40 calender days.

If you are displeased with the handling of your request you can appeal to the authority in writing and ask for an internal review of your case.

It normally costs a fee of £10.00 to cover the cost of processing and copying however if the data required is for a person who within a 28 days period was in hospital then this fee is wavered this applies in N. Ireland so perhaps you wish to mention this as it might be considered.

I hope you get this distressing bureaucratic procedure sorted swiftly without further distress.

No, hire a lawyer, or go to the board of directors of the hospital. It should not take 4 weeks. When finding a lawyer, make sure that they are not affiliated with hospital. Only give as much info as neccessary. Good luck, I'll say a prayer for you.

I'd pursue this aggressively, and retain the services of an attorney. Four weeks is too long, and seems like a stalling tactic. DEMAND those records; don't ASK for them.

when you are dealing with documents-all kind of documents,it does usually take some weeks for the istitution(the hospital) to get them organised,it doesnt surprise me that they said four weeks, they must have many cases of death to sort out-people die daily,so it wouldnt be straight forward thing to do.. Any way,i hope youre being strong thru this sad time, and im sorry for the for your loss!!!

First off, please accept my sincerest condolences on the death of your Mother.

In reference to your question, when my Father died (he too died at home), it did take a few weeks to get his medical records from the hospital.

Have a lovely 4th of July......Bright Blessings Upon You and Your Family.

Make sure you claim what is due for your father.

Attendance allowance was something we could claim for the time my father was terminally ill in hospital. (He wasn't disabled by the way)
