Actually, New Orleans was referred as "Sin City" awhile back and I still believe it. Because of the drinking, sex, corruption, crime, etc. Pre Vegas, it was the place where people could get wild and let their inhibitions go.
Now, I think Vegas is the place referred to as Sin City, eventhough all the sinning is on the up and up.

I would think give the love of evangelists to talk about sin that they have probably called every city in the USA by that title at some point in time and probably most of the towns as well. If you are looking for an actual nickname, then all the LV voters are probably right. May I propose, however that San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington DC are well up on the candidates list.

Las Vegas, Nevada,
It was origanlly termed this due to the wild indians who roamed this territory in the 1800's after the white man completed his genocide of their race it was forever called sin city.

As long there's a perception that a place is rife with drinking, gambling, drugs, prostitution, etc. (things stereotypically labelled "sins") it will be labelled "Sin City".
