World cup. English players get paid well over the odds?

for doing what exactly. They scored what half a dozen goals between them and they get paid millions between them. Why? What exactly do they do that is worth that money?

They are not worth the money...I don't think many people are. They are paid so much, because it is the nature of the sport to turn mostly ordinary people into superstars. Players like Beckham, Gerard, Ferdinand, earn more in 1 week, than I would get in 6 years as a postie in London...the argument for players is , that their career is usually over by the time they are 30.

Why is it allways footballers getting slammed about wages?It is not long since i was reading about these supermodels who wouldn't get out of bed for less than £20,000.If they work 5 days that's £100,000 per week for what?Grand Prix drivers on a £1,000,000. per race.Not bad wages over a season.Look at the money earned by American Baseball/American Football stars,Millions of dollars per year.What about jockeys who get 10% of prize money plus appearance money.There a lot of sportsmen who earn just as much if not more than footballers.Dont forget its only in the premiership where the big money is,and then not every team.Dont forget the £5,000,000 paid to SVEN for what?An English manager could have done a lot better for a lot less.

Blame the dumb football fans for putting them on a pedastel, and making them rich, and generally adoring and sucking up to them.
Also, the media for their significant contribution. They won't stop though, because there is too much money in it, and it's a populist sport.

Sadly, it is actually a good game that has been spoiled by being turned into a business, thereby attracting the wrong sort of people.

well, I don't know about England, they have a good tradition in soccer also so it doesn't matter how much they get payed and stuff, because I truly think they do it because they love their country and not just for the money

... but, honestly after hearing so much about Beckam and realizing he is really a show up..after appearing in all this magazines and stuff , I'm sort of glad that they lost , because that means that still there are some things that beauty and money cannot buy ..ok, maybe I'm exagerating is just a match , but don't you think? :P
