Notebooks are not gay LOL. Come on! The difference between the laptop and notebook is that a laptop is a desktop replacement and a notebook is what it says it is : a computer that you can use to take notes ( this is where the name comes from but you can do much more with it than taking notes :). The idea is that a laptop is much reliable and has much more power.
Cheers!

From Wikipedia point of view, laptop and notebook are often used 'interchangeably'. Laptop is an old term and notebook is the new term.

Here in Taiwan, when I talked to Taiwanese, they knew notebook (than laptop!). Just like 'mobile phone' is most used here in Taiwan, and 'Cell phone' is the preferred term in the Philippines!

I agree that we should use the term 'notebook' than ‘laptop’, though might confuse a bit.

I have been working with computers from the age of 17 and i am 48 now, so about 17 years and I have a Laptop AKA Notbook computer. Did they invent something knew that I missed somewhere along the line?

Paper and pencil is not my thing. I will keep my computer of any kind over that. And it don't matter what size of a laptop AKA notbook you have the key boards and mouse pads are still hard to use. I take along a wireless trackball and 10 key. Makes life a lot easyer then hunting picking the numbers.

A Laptop is the same as notebook, it's up to you what you want to call them.
A suspect you meant to ask, which is preferable, a laptop/notebook or a desktop?

NEITHER a desktop replacement notebook/laptop. It allows you to use desktop parts in the incident of damage or w/e instead of having to replace the whole freaken motherboard and you don't have to search for parts exclusively for laptops

Laptop is still portable and small enough for me. I think the notebook is too compact.

a notebook requires pen and pencil, and paper.
a laptop requires disks, and a battery.

notebooks don't cost as much to replace when someone throws it from your hands.
laptops can lose all your work with 7 keystrokes.
