It's whatever the heck you want to do. Don't accept anybody else's moral judgments.

I would say it is better to work. I am kept busy during the day and value my free time (even though most of it is taken up volunteering!). I know that I have earned my money and can use it to treat myself and those I love once in a while! It is also a source of pride for me, I would hate to be unemployed on the dole, it would also be a waste of 2 good Engineering degrees!

I've been on the dole before and all I can say is what a waste of time it was for me. I spent a long time doing nothing and not being bothered to do anything, and being depressed.
Never again.

i've worked for 45yrs and retiring this year and i'm going to finish with f*** all , so whats the point..i may as well have spent loads quality time watching my kids grow up instead of spending over 12 hrs a day at work, if i had known what i know now i would have been a lazy bastard and spent my time on the dole ...

I may be old fashioned though not old, I think it's all about pride and a feeling of achieving something, you have something to get up for each day and cash to spend at the end of the week !! Don't choose the dole !!

I think that a healthy balance is the best idea. Working hard I find brings with it self confidence, less depression and don't forget those office parties. Why sit around all day everyday moaning about not being able to get a job, afford stuff, what sort of life style are you presenting your kids??? Like its ok to live off the handouts of the nextdoor neighbour who works hard?? I work damn hard appreciate the money I earn and my kids are proud of me too. Sometimes people can't work and thats ok but if you can work get off your **** like everyone else. (sorry went a bit far then)

The ideal would be to find a job you enjoy doing, no matter how much or little it pays, it will still be better than the dole.

i've done both, and to be honest, i did feel better about myself when i worked. and i slept way too much when i was on the dole it's useful for deciding what you really want to do though, and you have the advantage of having the days free to do research, visit colleges/unis if that's what you want. plus it is a real pain in the *** to go sign on and make up fake interviews and stuff you've been on. plus a lot of the people you have to queue up next to in jobcentres smell.

Try working and being on the dole. No, that's illegal, don't do it.
Try instead to get paid for what you like doing.
