You are definitely not stuck. Not with your good energies. But it certainly can seem that way, huh. Don't despair! Any writer who is recognized can reach into his desk and wave a handful of rejection slips in your face that he received over the course of time. When you're going through this over and over again, it can truly seem endless but believe me, you are moving forward, and you are not "stuck." The trick is to just keep putting your good writing out there where others can see it, read it and respond to it. Sooner or later it is going to "happen" for you. It is not "if," but "when." Staying positive and relentless until light dawns is what takes the oomph and push. Rude people and people who offend you may be "deleted." (Now you have permission.) One day, like many fine writers, you can look back at them and smile. Nothing can stand up to persistence. I ran my own photography studio for five years doing all the different roles, and one Friday morning, in walked an ordinary looking fellow and asked if he could please see a few of my photographs. I said, certainly, and opened a large box of eight by tens. It turned out to be the managing editor of a local, Catholic weekly publication. On the spot we established an arrangement where I would provide prints every week and this went on for over ten years. This ordinary fellow - you see, you cannot know ahead of time when it is going to open for you. And that is precisely why you have to stay absolutely positive and solid and willing to be kind whenever any opportunity comes knocking, as it clearly did in my case. The money was very good but far more satisfying than that was finally having reached a very large viewing audience. Focus and concentrate on the content of your writing. Look for new places to submit your work when it has been checked over carefully by your alert eye and is ready for publication. Believe you WILL be published. I am sending this to you this morning on the Fourth of July (!) with loads of love and support! Believe in who you are and in the success you are going to be!!! From Chris, In South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old.)

With yahoo answers, you'll probably always have a few "insanely rude" responses. (I love that description by the way!) And "good story" is a nice, safe response to give someone. If you want honest responses to your writing, you're going to have to risk sorting through insanely rude and essentially useless positive feedback in the hopes of getting good constructive feedback. Instead of "good story" hoping someone will say two to four "good" things about your story...I like the way you did this, this, and this, but here are the weaknesses in your story. Perhaps you can consider doing this....
It takes more work on the side of the "answerer" and you're asking them to take you seriously.
I don't know what kind of writer you are--if you're aiming at poetry, short story, or novel. But keep writing and never let the rude responses deter you.

Try Zoetrope.com It's a website for writers where you can critique others and get critiques of your own stories. You have to read and critique 5 stories and then you can submit your own. There are lot of good reviewers on the site and you might get one but there may be a few not so good as well. It's a mix just like in most review circles. But hopefully you will get some good, helpful feedback. Good luck!

Take a creative writing class. I like to write and never had anyone who could give constructive criticism but after taking that class it opened a whole new world to me. Part of your grade is how you critique other people's work, if it's actually helpful. So you learn how to look for specific things and in turn people are able to look at your work- and it's not just one or two, it's the whole class-other people who taking writing as seriously as you do. That can be a bit nerve wrecking, having a bunch of people you don't know read your stuff, but trust me it's worth it, and in the end you find it wasn't that bad anyway. They all felt the same way as you. I definately recommend taking a class, it really helps like you wouldn't believe.

If you are writing a story on a computer, I may recommend using the spell check, it will assist with your bad spelling. I know how great it is to use codes, and Internet terms, but, when one writes for others, one should use the form of language use in the country of choice. in this case, in North America, there are several languages available, but most everybody speaks ENGLISH.

Kudos to Kourtney, Michael, Mom, poet rogue, Chris (especially Chris, for his detailed and loving response) and Nicole: all serious, and honest answers, all efforts to help.
I also am a struggling writer and would love to get great feed-back. I think the best way to do so is in a college "creative-writing" class. The instructors are usually good about directing class criticism in fair and constructive channels.
I don't think the internet is a way of gaining what we need.
Best of all to you, sweetheart. Happy 4th to all!

You need to get into a writing program where the other people involved are as serious as you are about constructive criticism. There are some great ones out there. Check with local schools at all levels.

Some people are thumbing down all the answerers who say aliens have never visited the Earth before. Sorry, but it's the truth. Although it is not impossible aliens do exist, there is no evidence of them ever visiting Earth. Anything else is just wishfull thinking.
