"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Gandhi
This is a quote that I like to live my life by. Before I go out and strive to change the world, or anyone else, I first strive to look within and perfect myself.

It doesn't have to be something big involving lots of free time. Start small. Even very small. Smile when you walk past people in the hall or on the street. Commit random acts of kindness. They cost very little and take very little time. If you know of a family that is struggling financially, slide an envelope under the door with whatever you can afford inside. Even five dollars might make a difference to them. If you can only give time do some research and figure out which organization in your area needs you t he most. It's good for them and you. Encourage others to do the same. Get your kids involved too. Or teach the skills involved in your occupation or hobbies to someone else. Check with the YMCA, local churches, libraries or other community outreach programs for classes that need qualified instructors. There was a literacy program that had a great slogan several years ago that I loved "Each One Teach One"... if we all taught someone else something we knew... to read... to fix a car...to sew... to sing... to dance... how much would that improve the world?

With regard to spreading the Good News of Jesus: If we really want to make the world a better place through religion, we can start by reading the New Testament, understanding for ourselves what Christ was all about, and then by striving to think and behave in Christ-like ways. We must stop worrying about what we think is wrong with other people, and instead think about what we can do to make sure that we impact others' lives in the most positive way possible.

It takes one person at a time, and one simple action can impact the world. Picking up litter, helping out with the elderly or kids in the community. Changing the world is imposable, making it better, its really not hard.
