hi sweetie, i played in a band for 14 years , i am a singer, here are some ideas, when we first started we would play 2-3 shows free (just to get your name out there) pick a worthy cause and charge $5.00 to get in and let the money go to help shelters or what everfoundation you are fond of. ask a local school, or park, sometimes a fire dept. will let you play there, if you donate the money to them. make you own flyers with the info.and hang them anywhere people will see them. take pictures of each band member and write a little about each one along with a demo of 2 of your best songs, one fast one slow. (that showes versitlity) take this info. to local club owners (they like to feel like they know you) and ask to sit in one set, or if you are good enough you may get the gig. (club owners are always looking for new talent) some other advice (hold tight to the no drinking , no drugs policy) no one wants to pay money to see a drunk!) when playing MAKE SURE TO INTERACT WITH YOU CROWD! they are the ones with the money. always leave a number where you may be reached, with anyone who wants it you could get private partys. good luck and GOD BLESS.

Create a cd of your work, along with some call cards, take them to club/ bar managers, you need to do some PR, people need to here what you can do, first to begin you will have to do a lot of free and cheap giggs, obviously the money for transport will have to come out of your pocket, but eventually that paying gig will come, just work on getting the croud to keep calling for you. Then you can work out a reasonable price with the client.

Do the leg work to sell your band. Play for free, maybe, at a charity benefit. Contact clubs and bars.

Why does this younger generation seem to always seek free things or want rewards without doing any WORK to EARN those rewards?

This is a GIMME generation.

Yes, i remember my first gig loooooong time ago.
Find a local club that you and your friends like to hang out in and ask the manager of the club if he could set it up for you. Or get few bands together and orgsnize one together.
