Some good answers here, I thought I'd add a little illustration of the difference:
When you are in orbit, there is no weight. So if you have a car in the bay of the the space shuttle, you could move it with one hand. You could only move it very slowly, however, because of the mass. And if it were coming at you at 30 mph, it would be exactly the same as if you were on earth and it was coming at you at that speed. The inertia from the mass would be the same and would crush you.

Weight is the pull of gravitation on an object...
Mass is the amount of matter in an object...
Weight is mass of object being attracted by the force of gravity; weight can vary, but Mass never does. Your weight would be different in moon, earth, saturn etc., mass is what you are in thin space when there are no attractive / gravitations forces on you.

Mass is a basic, primary characteristic of matter. If there is matter, there is mass. Mass is resistance to change in motion (not just speed but direction as well.)
Weight is mass in the gravitational field of another, usually larger, mass. You need mass and gravity, and so this is not primary but derived, a consequence of two or more primary characteristics.

the difference between mass and weight is:
mass- amount of material in an object (the mass depends on the number and kinds of atoms in an object and also mass is correspondent to an objects inertia e.g. the greater the mass, the greater it's inertia or resistance to change in motion)
weight- weight is the force of gravity acting upon an object's mass (wieght depends on gravity and also wight is correspondent to gravity e.g. the less gravity on the planet the less weight you have)

Mass is independent of force of gravity.
Weight is product of mass and g. Where g is acceleration due to gravity at the point where mass is located.
Weight of an object is = force of gravity on that object.

weight is the amount of gravitational force acting on a body...wherea s mass is amount of matterin a body...weight may differ...but mass doesn't differ(mass of certain atomic particles may vary when moving with the speed of order 10^6 or 10^7...that is based on theory of relativity...but in normal life..mass doesn't differ

there are two concepts of mass:
inertial mass and gravitational mass.
Inertial mass is the meassure of the resistance of any object to change its state of motion.
Gravitational mass is the measure of the strength of an object's interaction with the gravitational field.
weight: is the total gravitational force exerted on that object by all other objects.

I think mass is the amount of space something takes up... and weight is how much is weighs.
Like if you had a gallon container of tea it would weight less that a gallon container filled with lead... yet they'd both have the same mass, because they take up the same amount of space.
