In a casual environment, specifically if one is talking about attractiveness that is what is acceptable.
as far as a general statement though
He looks well.
He is well.
Well is always an adverb and describes verbs, but it takes the place of good if talking about health or how someone is.

I would think of someone that has been sickly looking and now you are inquiring as to his health and improvement in appearance when asked if he was looking good.
