I think there is abuse and mismanagement of money across the board, not just welfare.

I think that it is too easy to get on welfare, and easier for the low lifes to stay on welfare. I agree with assisting people, but the problem is, the moral people that most of us would love to help are too proud to get assistance. The money always goes to the white trash, or black lowlifes living in low income apartments, or trailor parks. These people will actually quit jobs after a few weeks because they will loose their welfare if they keep working. Why should we all help people who wont help themselves. I encourage all people to find the welfare abusers and make fun of them, taunt them, and make them feel like the garbage they are. There is nothing wrong with being an honest american down on your luck, a war widow, a person who needs a hand, but the low lifes screw it up for everyone. Oh and if you are living in a trailor using a computer that the government paid for to read this question, you should jump in front of a truck please.

I am so glad you asked this question! I'm gonna vent off some steam. I worked for low income housing in FL (I quit last year). The things i saw were unbelievable! Some people really do need the help, thats fine. Others take advantage of the system to the point of disgust. When I had to evict some people who new how to abuse the system, this is some of the things they would do to slow the eviction. Go to the hospital, get baceracted, go to jail, file bankruptcy etc... When I finally would get them out, the condition of the home/apartment was not fit for a cock roach to live in, let alone a pet or child. I will tell you why I sound bitter. #1 scenario, I would have a mother and her small children come to me for housing because the husband/boyfriend either or both beat and/or molested the mother and children and I have to tell them that I'm sorry I do not have a vacant unit for you. Why? Because I have a useless slug that won't get off their sorry butt and get a job, because they know the system so well!!! I can't evict them! That is just one scenario, I could write a book... Like I said some people really do need it and sometimes can not get it, it's heartbreaking. I know one government agency is giving out a 2 year max. for housing, they should all be like that. Except, of course for the mentally and physically challenged, they in most cases need assistance for longer period of time or for life.

I don't believe anyone in the current regime would agree that being "easy" on welfare abuse is right. I believe it is a matter of prioritization during budget planning to fund enough personnel adequately enforce regulations that have been in place for decades. They have chosen to focus on other issues such as the Iraq war and illegal immigration. Social issues like welfare, health care, elder care and such are just not important to this president.

Yes I do and I am a Liberal Democrat. I think that it is time to return to what this program was meant to be. It was meant to help the poor until they could help themselves. Like any other well intentioned program it has been abused to the point where nothing of the original remains. It was not meant to support people all of their lives. However that said we still need a program to do help people. The elderly rely on programs like this to live. SS for most of them is not enough today. People need health insurance and food. I do think every able person should have job training and go to work. Even if it is a program like FDR's and we create jobs for them so they do develop a work ethic. And abuse of this system needs to be addressed so we can fix it.

Yes I do, but the hard part is who is abusing and who isn't. I think there are clear abusers and people who really do need it and sometimes they look the same on paper. If there was a way to see a clear abuser (and there are CLEAR abusers) then that welfare should be cut in my opinion.

Absolutely. When you have when you have a family with four generations on welfare, there is a serious problem. The social programs should be there to give a hand up and not create a new breed of slavery.

Let's just say it's an emergency program, not a lifestyle!!! When those who NEED it can't get it, but people to lazy to get up off their butts and get a job live off of it, I'd say the government is way to easy on the program and it's abusers.

Entirely. An article just came out a few days ago that said there may be as much as 500 million in fraud in LA county alone. When the investigation shed light on it, the people in charge of oversight responded like, "Gosh, really? That's bad."

No kidding, Einstein.
