Many (if not most) American's have never been to Ireland, or can ever hope to go, so they judge by what they see on television and movies, which is a small representation (and nearly non existent, actually).
Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. I think what you perceive is that American's KNOW Irish heritage/history is older than their own and that is actually what you are referencing. Most of us know, regardless of what is presented thru media, the Irish are not backwards or antique in their way of life. The heritage and history is rich but certainly not left in the past.

Ignorance, apathy and near illiteracy mostly I'm sure. Many Americans know little more than what their full time Nanny the TV taught them while their mother watched her drama stories all day in the other room. There is an epidemic of this kind of behavior in this country, even though these days kids learn mostly from video games and the internet and moms are playing online in her own bedroom.
But let us not damn all for the wailings of those who are simply much more vocal about their ignorance than others are about what they do know.
It's been a tough few years for the intelligent Americans. What with a President that can't seem get a good grip on the meaning of a sentence before allowing it to leave his mouth. Hell the man still needs training wheels for a two wheeler.
For now anyway, I wouldn't worry about what any of us Americans thinks about anyone. We'd have to pluck the puritan from our own eye before we could see how backward or progressive anyone else is.

Most of us have at least a little Irish from the Irish that migrated like a hundred years ago. What most of us have heard about Ireland, we heard from old people who called it the 'Old Country'. This puts the idea in our heads that it's all farmland, castles, moors, and people who dance to folk-music. Most of us dont recall the 'Emerald Tiger' days when the economy was picking up over there just a few years ago. I do. My brother was considering 'migrating back'. He's one for an adventure like that, but he didn't go.
And, this part is my own rant, not so long ago Irishmen were killing each other over Middle Eastern theology weren't they?

IMAGE MAN IMAGE ON T.V. Tells us that it is that way. It shows you are all drinkers, and abuser, but your lucky in gold and charms, you all live in cottages on the land and farms. all redheads are Irish they say and show. but in the end your all doomed to die at 38 with liver failure..
Now, NONE OF THAT IS TRUE???? that is the funny part of it because i am Irish not much but my grandfather is and my daughter has red hair, my son blond and i am a Burnett.. Did she get it from her grandfather who had Black hair full Irish.. Problem..
As for backwards, Society has not shown us you are great rock stars or movie stars, you only know how to dance and drink. So why not start showing the world new movies from your country, show then your clothing line, start trends, show them the real world start showing them the new generation. this is the only way it will change..
Why don't you do it.. it will make you rich in the long run, come up with a documentary on the new generation and you film it in the streets and the night clubs the schools. etc.. that is where it all starts.. lol good luck.

It's all those donkey carts, rainbow. The donkey isn't a popular mode of transportation in North America. People in North America don't understand the lay of the land in Eire, it's confusing with all the hills and dales and such. I hope this has helped.

I don't know of one American who has that opinion of Ireland. Mostly when Americans speak of Ireland, it's voicing a desire to visit there, and for those who have gone there, they speak of its beauty.
That's it!

I thnk it is a natural inclination. We tend to assume what we do not know. I mean there are people in Mexico or Japan that still think we listen to Elvis. I think it is in everyones nature. I simple try not to assume and just ask people about places I do not know.

first of all i do no longer think of ninety% of the folk could have faith who he's or replaced into, and would not shield what he had to assert. this is that if he got here in human kind. The final God, ought to no longer get each and all of the folk to hearken to him. for many of them did no longer care what he had to assert. Sorry. take care dave
