Gas prices are high because demand is high because the Auto industry decided not to learn the lessons of 1974...gas guzzling cars...gas guzzling SUV's...and Jimmy Carter made it nearly impossible to build more gasoline production refineries...that's why we have such a high price of oil/gasoline...we could become self sufficient for oil/gas IF we decided to do something about it...you DON"T need to drive a 3 tonne vehicle (Expedition/Suburban/Tahoe)...by using composite materials we could make stronger (vastly) lighter vehicles...and thus much more fuel efficient...but the Auto industry and fuel industry doesn't desire this...in the late 1970's 2 automotive engineering students at the University of Miami (Fla) built an engine that would get 180 miles per gallon of gasoline, the patents for the engine were purchased jointly by Ford Motor Co and Texaco...and buried...until we DEMAND more fuel efficient vehicles we will be doomed to high gasoline prices.
