It's possible. People change overtime. In foriegn countries, such as South America, Europe, and Japan (continent but big on Power Metal. Don't believe me? Look at the chart position for Blind Guardian's latest Single in Japan). It'll be difficult in America for it to rise because of the "pop culture" where everything is very simple to understand and the people, such as rappers, coporations, & celeberities, keeps promoting. I think it will truely come back if, for example, Jack Black starts speaking a lot about Iced Earth or Blind Guardian. Another reason is if "the man" promotes it as much as rap, pop, and alternative does. I believe that it can happen. I think it will only happen if those famous rich people start mentioning them and giving them loads of credit. I also see hope from Dragonforce. Dragonforce may start a Power Metal epidemic in the U.S.A. and bring back the return of Heavy Metal. I could never to get my friends who loved Black Metal, Death Metal, Nu-Metal, Industrial Metal, and all those other bands to listen to Power Metal. When Dragonforce became known, they grew attached to them and wanted more of similar style. So I showed them Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Kamelot, and some others and they finally started getting into Power Metal. Therefore, I would say there is hope that true Metal will regain its former popularity.

It is regaining a lot of its popularity in Europe. I dunno where are you from, probably the states, else you would know that in Europe, the metal scene picked up to the point of 50.000 people open air festivals in the summer.
And I'm not talking about the popular ozzfest commercial stuff, but about proper true metal bands. Do you know Wacken Open Air? Bang Your Head? Metalcamp? Gods Of Metal? Monsters of Rock?
There's one every week or two, all over the Europe. So yes, I believe the popularity of metal is on the rise again. All I'm afraid is it being polluted by that horrible NU influences and 14 year old kids, listening to Limp Bizkit and thinking they're SO damn metal. I hate those. That has nothing to do with metal.

Nope. Frankly, metal was never really in the spotlight. The closest it came was the hair metal waves in the 80's. If you're speaking of REAL metal bands, not Bon Jovi and Poison, then, I don't think it'll ever be mainstream popular, which is probably a good thing. Too much attention can kill a culture.

I find that music, (like fashion), revolves in cycles. When older music from other decades make a come-back, it's never truly the same as it was back in the day. It always has a kind of "neo-retro" sound to it. In other words, it "sounds" like the older stuff, but with a kind of "futuristic" twist to it. So, in answer to question, no, I don't think heavy metal will return in its real, pure form.

No, but I want it to so bad because all of this rap crap is really starting to get to me. I don't think rock will ever get back in the spotlight because a lot of people out there that used to love rap are starting to change to rock in a poser sort of way. Al those die hard rock fans that stayed with rock will keep it going for a little while, but rap is just going to stay on top. I know it sucks but its the truth. Rock on! (note to posers: you guys suck...)

As with all genres o fmusic, it will experience resurgences over the decades but will never achieve it's former glory. It's good music and will never completely fade but, alas, it's heyday has passed.
