Jack Hallmon's claim to fame came vs WVU(@) on Oct. 26, 1996. WVU came into that game ranked #10 and 12 in the polls with a 7-0 record(Miami 4-2), with the top ranked defense in the country(only gave up 51 points in seven games).

WVU held Miami's offense in check through out the game(162 total yards). Leading 10-6 with :29 ticks left on the clock in the 4th quarter....WVU set up to punt the ball from their own 20. Get the punt off, put the game on the defenses shoulders....ride off with the victory.

That was the plan and this is where Jack Hallmon comes in. WVU lines up to punt and Tremain Mack blocks it. Jack Hallmon recovers it and dishes it off to Nate Brooks...who takes it to the house for seven. That's the ball game. Miami upsets WVU on national television. This is how Jack Hallmon claimed his fame, by picking up a blocked punt followed by a lateral.
