No other Cricket team comes even close to this one. It has been most consistent winning team since the last decade or so.... Truely deserving World Champions. If their current players are aging they have even more good players waiting in line... Given the toughest selection criteria by the Australian Cricket Board ( ACB ) everyone has to perform their best to be in the team, Nobody's place is permanent in the team. Not even Captain's. This tactic is utilised by the current Indian Coach "Greg Chappel" to some extent and which ofcourse is working for Indian team.
As of INDIA, I would say it still remains the Team which could Challenge the World Champions, Australia. But yeah as for the Best team.. It is Australia.

Australia because they have the right balance in their team.They have got 2 very good openers adam gilchrist & simon katich.In middle order ther are some fine players like Ricky ponting, mike hussey.They have some of best all rounders of the world like Andrew symonds, Michael clarke, Shane Watson.The bowling attack which australia have is the best in the world with the ace bowler Glenn Mcgrath , speedster Brett Lee.
India is not as good as australia but they have the best batting kine up in world with some fine players like Sachin tendulkar,Rahul Dravid,Virendar sehwag, Yuvraj singh, Mahendar singh Dhoni. India has some very good young fast bowlers like Irfan Pathan, S.Sreesanth, Munaf Patel.India's spin Attack is also very good with Harbhajan singh, Anil kumble.
But if we compare both teams i would say:-
Australia - 60%
India - 40%
