Last night I was robbed. I have never been more scared in my life but I held on for deal life onto my bag until I thought the guy was going to pull a knife or worst on me. What pisses me off the most was that I'm screaming for help and there's people around and no one would help me. I keep having flash backs of what happened. What can I do to help myself get pass this?

Yes, I was robbed, "mugged" is a better word, years ago, in the bay area. And, I received a stab wound to the back. What did they get ? A lousey small pocket knife that belonged to my dearly departed grandfather and some change. It bothered me for a while (alot), but, with time, I no longer think about it, well, until I read your question. The two who did that to me probably have more to deal with about what they did. I just thank my lucky stars I'm alive. Talk to a couselor, a close friend or someone you can trust and call when you feel like you have to talk about it. But just dwelling on it is no good for the mind. Look at it this way, you alive and able to talk about it. Now, thats something to smile about :)

Well first of all, I am so sorry this happened to you and I hope you feel slightly better now.
I recommend you contact the local victim support in your area, and also maybe make an appointment to see your doctor just to have a general health check. You do need someone to talk about this with, and to hopefully get you through the flashbacks and anxious feelings. You mustn't let this incident turn you into a prisoner in your home. You have as much right to be able to walk about in complete safety as anyone else.
I have had a similar thing happen to me in London, when my purse was taken from my bag. Later when I was leaving the shop I saw signs up saying pickpockets operated in the area and now I never carry my purse or valuables in a bag that can be accessed by anyone other than me.
I was lucky I had my stepfather with me, and the first thing he made sure we did was cancel my credit cards etc. My mind was in a complete blank, so I was very grateful he was there and able to think coherently.
As for people being there and doing nothing, I read a book once about what to do in a situation like that, and they suggested singling people out, 'the lady in the black coat', 'the man with the beard' that way attention is drawn to others and it's more difficult to ignore someone in distress when they've called you out.
I guess everyone is just too afraid to intervene incase they have a knife pulled on them. Although you would think with mobiles being everywhere someone might ring for help even if they don't actually step in personally.
I know that you will be more cautious now, it changed me, and the way I am when I am outside after I was robbed. But please, don't let the person who did this take away your liberties. And I hope you recover from this ordeal very soon.

Yes I have been robbed but this was nothing compared to the kind of robbery you went through. My house was robbed. When I returned from work, I realized someone had been in my house. It's not a good feeling at all. It makes you very caution of people around you and make s me more aware of things I do before I leave for work now. With time the bad feelings I had for the person who did this to us left. But the whole thing will always linger with me. Be cautious all the time

people don't come for help. it's yelled as a joke so much that people don't pay attention. people come if you yell fire.
i'm so sorry this happened to you. take a self defense class to feel better about your safety and know what to do if something like this happens again. go the the cops and give them all identifying details of the robber if you haven't already done so, they may also give you the name of a counselor or a support group.

yeah... it sucks... but imagine if you would have had your life taken. IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE. I'm certain that this is not much comfort but these thing happen in a capitalist society. The best we can do is accept the matrix we're in and take some government endorsed drugs to dull the pain and create new side-effects to mask.... No, seriously - take the red pill and ask Jesus to show you the truth.

I work nights by myself. I am a woman.
I always carry mace on me.
I have LUCKILY never been personally robbed....(knock on wood).
If you want, you can carry a gun.
You can also take those classes for self defense for women !!
Good luck to ya !

I have had stuff stolen from my house but nothing as horrendous as your story. Even on my scale the only thing that helped was time.
