One of my favourite all time songs and artist: Don McLean. The story is supposed to be about the day he heard that Buddy Holly and his friends had been killed in the plane crash.

Long, long, time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile,
And I knew that if I had my chance, that I could make that music dance and maybe we'd be happy for a while.
January made me shiver, with every newspaper I'd deliver,
Bad news on the doorstep, I couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried, when I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside, the day, the music died.

And we were singing, bye, bye, Miss American Pie,
Drove my Chevy to the levy, but the levy was dry.
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye,
'Cause this'll be the day that I die, this'll be the day that I die.....

Don Mclean sings both The Day the Music Died & (Bye Bye Miss) American Pie.

"American Pie" is actually the title of the second song.

Don Mclean...........Madonna.

That line about the day the music died is actually a refference to the plane that went down holding The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valence. A sad moment for American pop music at the time.
