If there is no pressure they will never win because the players won't play with their hearts.
If the english press keep bothering the players, they will never win as well. Just like here in Brazil, the english press always screw everything up by giving false hopes, because the more involved people get with the WC, more WC-related products they sell (or papers). They sell alot more papers (and get alot more audience) about the WC if everyone is interested, and they only get interested if they think they can win. So in all countries they make their people think they will go far, to increase interest and sell more advertisements.
That's why big names are on the teams, to make people get interested, no matter if they are playing good or bad people go to the next game to see if they will shine (Lampard, Beckham, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo).
When the marketing around a player reach such a level, the commercial interest is more important than playing well. A coach would take out Lampard because he wasn't playing well? What if they lose? Everyone will say "why did you take out Lampard?!?!" to him (Pekerman/Riquelme). If they lose with him, people will most likely blame the big name for not playing well.

I don't think that we would win, but deep down we would love to. Then reality kicks in.... when you have the whole of England backing their team it's all about pride and the what if factor...every world cup it's always the same thing. At the end of the day theres nothing wrong with supporting your team and wishing the best for them.....but oh my god! if the day ever comes that England win the world cup! WEEEEELLLLLL you'll never hear the end of it. (we're still reminiscing over what happened in 1966) (support your team through thick and thin....not like the Chicargo Bulls ...nuff said) ps look at Bazil.....

Hey, I live in England and I never thought England would win the World Cup - I'd say France now, because Zizu is too good!!
I don't think we even have the capability to win Euro 2008....

I didn't believe that England could win the World Cup, especially when they had to play against Portugal.

I think all the top seeded teams at the world cup believed there team would win the world cup , if you had no belief in ya team you can't get passinate about them .

Yes, and I really can't believe that they really believed it!!! If you know what I mean. They struggled through to the quarters without meeting any strong teams and then seemed suprised they didn't win.
I hope they never win - living in this country would be unbearable - people are arrogant (without good reason) enough as it is!!

Not at all. In Italy many saw as possible champions before tournament starts those teams (in chance order):
Brazil
Argentina England
Germany Italy.
England was granted this ranking because having great midfielders as Gerrard and Lampard (their midfield was ranked as the real best), and organization and tactics.

Yes. I thought we'd win it. Perhaps with a different manager, better referee's and a complete squad of players, who knows. Now I'd like to see Germany take it.

Yep - I dont live in England and no-one I have spoken to thought they'd do it...most were amazed they made the qtr finals considering the way they played (or didnt play, to be more correct)
