The optimistic banner waving and flag showing which occured throughout England's involvement in the World Cup has once again ruffled some feathers in the politically-correct brigade. Once again, we are being told that this optimistic patriotism is offensive. Flag should NOT be displayed in case (wait for it) we offend immigrants. Yep.
Imagine telling the yanks to take down the stars and stripes in case the Mexican immigrants become offended. There would be uproar, and quite rightly so.
Yet here in England, we seem to shrug our shoulders and say “okay”. Any degree of pride in our nation is zapped out of us.
Well not his time.
I’ve truly had enough of being told that MY flag is offensive. I’ll display it with pride. I love England- I’m proud to be an Englishman. Our history and heritage is the pride of the world. Tourists flock here for our thousand-or-so year history and they wallow in it. We are, as a whole, a nation of genuinely kind and friendly people. We are renowned for our fondness of animals, our sense of humour and our acceptance of different cultures and ways of life. All in all, we’re bloody great!
And on the rare occasions when we have reason to show our pride in our nation by flying the flag, some pen-pushing, blotter jockeys with nothing better to do decides that what we’re doing is racist and inciting hatred.
Well TO HELL WITH YOU!
YOU are the ones inciting hatred! We are innocently flying our flags to support our nation in a competition, and having a damn good time doing it. We are not trying to offend anyone at all. And if anyone IS offended by the people of England putting on a rare display of patriotism, then they can simply GET out of the way, and get their moaning, miserable party-pooping faces out of my way.
St George’s Cross is NOT racist. It is no more offensive than ANY other flag in the modern world. So why are we made to feel like bastardised versions of the National Front by simply flying it?
There is a popular pub-chain in this country called JD Wetherspoon’s. Renowned for cheap drinks and great employment policy, this is a company which I believed deserved to do well.
However, last month a customer was told that he would not be permitted on the premises wearing an England football shirt in case it caused offence. Yep, a pub, IN ENGLAND, was not allowing a customer to wear an England top as it may incite trouble.
This customer was a two-year-old boy.
He was told he could remain on the premises if he turned his shirt inside-out.
I will NEVER visit a Wetherspoon’s pub again.
Pubs are also being told not to display bunting and pennants. The reason they are trying to fob us off with is that it is a fire hazard. Funny- it never has been in the past.
And then there's Christmas’ (yep, Christmas, the word that has been used harmlessly, and indeed positively, for hundreds and hundreds of years) is now suddenly and magically offensive to non-Christians…
Well, the latest piece of political correctness to irritate the hell out of me is something which appeared in the newspaper recently which involves the sport which I love (and the England team who filled me with pride last year)- CRICKET.
The governing body of the English game, the ECB, are holding discussions whether to ban the anthem ‘Jerusalem’ from being sung by England supporters during games, in case (guess what…?) it offends Muslims. I kid thee not.
What kind of situation do you think would occur if I, as an Englishman, stood up here in MY OWN COUNTRY and said that there were some aspects of Islam that offended ME? Do you think I'd get a hearing??
Of course I wouldn't. I'd be dismissed as a trouble-causer. They'd probably charge me with stirring up racial-hatred.
For those of you who aren’t aware, Jerusalem is a patriotic poem by Blake, written in the late nineteenth century and set to a rather stirring melody in the early 1900’s. The words have that rare effect of making the English feel proud of their beautiful land. But, as we are already aware, if the English have something to be proud of, it must be offensive to someone, and is therefore snatched away from them. It is ridiculous.
To emphasise what a wonderful, inspiring anthem the ECB are doing such a disservice to, here are the lyrics to Jerusalem:
And did those feet in ancient times,
Walk upon England’s mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On England’s pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine,
Shine forth upon those clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among those dark satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold,
Bring me my arrows of desire,
Bring me my spear, O clouds unfold,
Bring me my chariot of fire.
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In England’s green and pleasant land.
Ah, it fills me with pride just to type out the words. In my head I can hear the wonderful orchestration, the pounding drums, the piano-led introduction. It’s a fantastic song.
But offends Muslims, according to the PC-brigade.
As Christmas, which has been celebrated happily for ages and ages has suddenly started to offend people, this song, which has been performed and loved for nigh on a century, has all of a sudden, become disrespectful.
What a load of garbage.
The ECB has said that Jerusalem is a holy city to people of the Islamic faith, and therefore the idea of it being built in England is offensive. Why? We have many Muslim people in this country who are happy and proud to be here and call themselves English. So why would a song be offensive to them?
Once again, people, the answer is simple: It isn’t!
Is it the Muslim people who have complained against English cricket fans singing this song? No it isn’t.
So who has brought up this point? It’s the ECB.
The English Cricket Board have allowed and innocent yet inspiring anthem to become tarred with the old racism brush. They will be meeting this week to discuss whether the song (which in my opinion ought to be the official English National Anthem) is to be banned due to its racist context.
It’s an absolute disgrace.
Particularly disturbing is the fact that a member of the Muslim Council of Great Britain told us last week that he “can see no reason why Muslims should be offended by this song”.
So there you have it, in black and white. The Muslims aren’t the people who are stirring all this racial tension up.
It’s these idiotic pen pushers once again.
Do they not realise that an Englishman reading that he is to be banned from singing certain songs, or calling his traditional celebrations by their traditional names, because it is offensive to Muslims will immediately assume that it is the Muslims who are bringing all these issues up?
He will think to himself, “if these immigrants don’t like my way of life, why don’t they get the hell out of my country and leave me be, rather than telling me what I can and can’t sing celebrate.” This kind of news stirs up racial hatred.
And the Muslims are not at fault at all.
In fact, they are already having a bad enough time of it with all the terror attacks on the west being carried out in the name of Islam.
The last thing they need is a bunch of office-blotter-jockeys sat in an office somewhere dreaming up new ideas to create harmony between the races, when in reality they are causing nothing but resentment.
Why do these people ASSUME that Muslims are going to be offended?
Why not leave everything as it is? If something does offend the Muslim people (or any race or creed of people for that matter) let’s wait for THEM to come forward sensibly and air their grievances, rather than TELLING them what they ought or ought not to be offended by.
This country truly is one hell of a joke these days, and something will have to be done soon, before things come to a head.
Racial tension is particularly tort at the moment, particularly here in Yorkshire where a gang of immigrants shot dead a female police officer last year, and seriously injured another.
A trial took place last year regarding a black youth who was bludgeoned with a pickaxe in Liverpool, in what was said to be a racially motivated attack.
Three Asian men who kicked a white man to death in London, before singing proudly “We killed the white man!” were sentenced in a court last year.
The country is descending deeper and deeper into the gutter. A balance NEEDS to be brought into play. We cannot continue the way we are.
And a group of IDIOTS sat trying to take away a song which we English are so proud of, simply because they ASSUME that it may offend Muslims, are making matters worse, increasing the tension, not alleviating it.
Racism is a problem. A worldwide problem.
There are some who will argue that people of different races simply CANNOT live together in peace, that they are too different. They say that multi-culturalism will not and cannot work.
I disagree.
I believe it CAN work.
It is FORCED multi-culturalism which can’t work.
It is the invention of stupid rules, and enforcing bans on traditions that the MAJORITIES enjoy which is causing the increasing divides between the races.
They call these people who uphold Political Correctness ‘Do-Gooders’.
I fail to see what good they have done.
These people, who decided that prison should be for rehabilitation of convicts to stop them from breaking the law again, rather than punishment, have sat back and watched the crime-rates soar.
And the reason is simple:
No Punishment = No Deterrent.
It’s as straightforward as that. But do these ‘Do-Gooders’ realise this?
Nope.
They still insist that they are right, in spite of the statistics which prove otherwise.
And it is people like this who have instigated all of this political correctness nonsense which is seeing the majorities in this country being treated like second-rate citizens, being told that around every corner they are offending some race or other with their age-old traditions and values.
Well, enough is enough.
We must stand up in this country and tell these so-called authorities: We're not going to stand for this any more.
It is tiring. It is beyond tiring, it's frustrating AND offensive and we are getting sick of it!
WE, the English, believe it or not, have feelings too, and all of this PC nonsense is offending US!!
I can't speak on behalf of the Scottish and the Welsh, but would love to hear their opinions on their national identities. It seems to me that these people still have a sense of pride and patriotism, which is something that is being slowly stolen from the English.
