Usually its because girls mature faster than boys, Girls soon learn that if they do well in school they can do whatever they want with their lives, while boys tend to not pay attention, although they do arounf the 15/16 age

I don't think girls are more intelligent than boys, I think they are about equal. However, I do believe that boys just happen to have different priorities than girls. For me as well as the great majority of guys I know, school is not fun. And if it is, it is not because of the learning that takes place there. For many girls that are considered intelligent that I have encountered all seem to be putting two much effort into their studies. When finals come around, I hear the girls complaining that they had to study for three or four hours, some even more. Most of the guys would only study for an hour or so. In the end the girls got A's and a few B's while the guys mostly got B's along with a few A's and C's. However, most of the guys were in agreement that an A is not worth four hours of studing if you can get a B with only studying for an hour.
So to question that girls are more intelligent than boys actual comes down to who is willing to sacrifice more for what they want. Girls tend to sacrifice a lot more time studying, while Guys decide to sacrifice there time playing sports are pursuing other things.
If girls want the A's they can have it, for me I only need to keep a B average in order to keep my scholarship, so why work any harder? If I need to get an A, I will work for it, but until someone raises the bar, I am not going to jump any higher

Girls develop earlier and quicker than boys, so whilst they are at school, girls can seem more intelligent. This is shown by girls performing better at GCSE exams aged 16. Boys catch them up later on in life though.
I reckon women may seem more intelligent than men, because they are more perceptive. They listen more to others, take in more and observe more, from the world around them.
Then there's another possibility. Some argue that 'women's intuition' (a sub-category of intelligence) comes because the fallopian tubes provide a vortex between the solar plexus and the womb, enabling them to feel stronger 'gut reactions' about decisions they need to make.
However, intuition is a faculty ALL human beings have, it's just that some know how to use it more than the rest. There are also a lot of intelligent boys and men in the world, and a lot of stupid girls and women in the world. You can't really generalise.

I did something resembling this for my sociology report during high school. The conclusion i drew was that while girls are 'smarter' than boys in high school they do not follow through to higher education with the same results, indeed girls begin to lose ground and are eventually surpassed by boys. This is because in childhood girls are more submissive than boys, and also when told to carry out a task they do it with more ease because what they are told to recognise is there. However when independent thought is required and opnions need to be formed they struggle, purley because the first years in school do not prepare them for this type of thinking, indeed some girls in my class resembled robots during high school. If you want proof of this just watch classroom behaviour, more often than not girls are better behaved than boys who will usuallly horse around.
Before all the militant feminists get up my back about this consider this- all studies must be as impartial as possible, and my findings were as a result of 3 weeks of intensive work, talking to and observing girls and boys in their respective tasks and environments.

I think girls are more intelligent than boys because they mature earlier (mentally and physically) and so tend to be more sensible and harder working at an earlier age - however it levels out and then I don't think one sex is more intelligent than the other.
