the match this evening will be a keenly contested one (providing the refs don't spoil the game ) so i predict that the game will go to a penalty shootout. Lehmann is really good and so is Italy's keeper Buffon so who will win?

ITALY will destroy Germans as they did before the world cup in a friendly match and they won it by 3:0. ITALY will be the world cup holder for the 4th time and bad luck for the germans their journey ends before lifting the world cup.

Well, it is very possible it will go to penalties. Germany didnt generate much offense against Argentina, while Italy has a stellar defense. If Italy scores first, they could certianly win. If Germany scores first, it is definitely possible, but unlikely, I would think. Best of luck to both teams. GO PORTUGAL!

Why everyone says about penalties. Italy will win in the regular time by the score: (3-0) no, I was just dreaming!!!

You are right, it's so hard to predict the result in penalties, but I think as Italian people are so emotional; they will be influenced by the sounds the German supporters make!! But hope not. I hope they keep their confidence in the whole match.

FORZA AZZURRI !

1. Italy lose at penalty Kicks in '90 (Argentina, semi-finals), '94 (Brazil, final) and '98 (France, Quarters). Just to point it out how unfair your question is, we Italians call it 'l'incubo dei rigori' = 'penalties nightmare' ;-)
2. I can't remember a team winning quarter and semis at penalty kicks. So I HOPE it won't be. However, my prevision is a square 3-0 for Italy.
3. I agree, they're great goalies. But I think a saved penalty always is a shooter mistake. You can shoot a penalty in many ways to avoid any save chance. Usually a team wins at penalties because the opponent fails its own.

Buffon is an excellent goal keeper so Italy have a bigger chance of winning if there was a penalty shoot-out

If there are penalty shootout Italy is going to win it, but I think Italy's going to win it in extra time. Germany's chance is Totti. He is completely out of good form.

Well, German strikers are better than Italian strikers.
BUT, Buffon is better than Lehmann (I guess....)
So, it's a tie... If there will be penalty kicks, it will only be a matter of mental condition!!! Both striker and goalkeeper should be relax.....
I really hope Germany will win this time again.....!!!!

I disagree, I think Italy has to be aggressive and offensive since the beginning, they have to finish in 90 minutes, remember the team is not too young as Germany is.
