When flies try to get out of the house through the windows, how come they always hit the glass and never seem to find the gap to get out?
Are they just really dumb or partially blind?....come to think of it, how many eyes do they have?!

flies have approx 1000 eyes, they can see perfectly well, however they do not see the same as we do.

They see a larger protion of the ultraviolet range of light and less of the infra red one (so hot things are invisible, but they can see more than us because UV light (sunlight) is reflected off objects more.) So this means things that are transparent and only hold heat (such as glass) are effectivley invisible to flys.

So to answer your question in a sentence no they are not dumb, just partially blind!

They fly against the window and knock themselves silly then they forget about the window and do it again and by chance at the end they'll find the gap.

both. they dont see the glass, we have all observed this. But if you see a wasp fly in the room and you give it a slap, it will in many cases fly out pretty fast, cause it simply remembers the way back. (cause wasps dont seem to see the glass either.)

they have tons of eyes all around them so I don't think it's that.

I never tought about it. Maybe is just plain stuborness - always wanting to do things they can't.
