add more RAM... it will speed up your pc. i have 2 pcs of 1GB RAM. its the best thing. no matter how you use your HDisk. but be sure to be away from spy-ware and viruses becauuse it is the usual cause of slow computers

install minimum programs to keep cpu speeds running high, try not to multi-task too much if at all possible. Downloads wont affect it too much or data stored on the disk once the disk is regularly de-fragmented (otherwise the cpu must fetch the pieces of the file it needs from several pieces of the harddisk)

Partition your large storage. It'll free up your cpu. It'll move quicker. More than enough for you to notice the difference.
