tell him the truth. lying wont always work and by making up stupid excuses he's just going to not give in anymore. maybe you should try thinking before you begin the drinking! watch out next time!

that a friend got drunk and you stayed with her at a random persons house to keep her safe from the creepy older guys that were there.
Or that you friend has been going through some emmotional times, and you just cant tear yourself away from her. You know you should have called, but everytime you got up to go she started crying again. Tell him you cant tell him what it is because its private, but not to worry shes not in any danger.
or tell him that you went driving and ran out of gas in an area with no signal, and had to wait for the nearest gas station to open.
be creative.

Why not tell him the truth? He is a Dad, and certainly not an idiot! He KNOWS! He has been there and done that. Don't insult his intelligence, by making up excuses. The truth works when all else fails.

Tell him that you fell asleep where ever you were, and that you woke up and drove home as fast as you could. Corny, but that's all I got.
