I feel happy to be praised, so can we generalize that all people get pleased when they are told nice things.

Most people, some people are pessimistic though, and are suspicious of other people's underlying motives for being so nice. Others can't handle compliments because they feel it adds pressure. Everyone varies.

That is generally true. Do you like to hear bad news? There are exceptions however. Take for example people like Hitler and Stalin. Hitler was pleased when he heard how well his campaign to exterminate the Jews was going. Fortunately, people like Hitler are few. Most people are good at heart.

a person will only listen to anything he wants to hear. One of the best example is when a speaker is delivering his views about abortion, if you have an opposite view with the speaker, you tend to shrug away what he says. This is one of the defensive mechanism of the body and one of the many obstacles in proper listening.
