There are a variety of scents out there, here are a list of the best. And if you're looking for exotic scents, always go to Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue. They have a new line called, New York. It's a collection of about 50 fragrances all themed after New York Burroughs, may fave..Bleeker Street ($125). You've got to get one that works best FOR YOU. Some tips in finding what's right for you:
~~When you try it on, wait 20-30 min. to see how it reacts with your skin. You may be surprised at how different it smells after a while.
~~American scents (such as Calvin Klein) tend to be made with synthetic oils, so they smell pretty much the same on most people. European designers tend to use natural oils, so there is more uniqueness once it's on your skin. Whichever your taste - whether you like to be sure what it's going to smell like or you want something more unique - you'll know which will work better for you.
~~My anecdotal experience is that floral-based scents change more when they're on.
~~Supposedly, your nose can only differentiate among about three scents at a time. So give your nose a break. Test a few, spray one you like on a wrist, then go look at something else for a while, then come back to the perfume.
~~I've had good luck with Givenchy, in terms of compliments on the scent and it being long-lasting.
~~Although I love Alexander McQueen's Kingdom, it doesn't last that long.
I could tell you what I like, but it's so personal. I bought a super-expensive Cartier perfume for my mom one year, because I thought it would be great for her, and she didn't like it; she only wears some Estee' Lauder scent that I hate. So you never know - even someone I thought I knew and could predict what she'd like, I blew it. So go to a department store and have some fun!!

-Jean Paul Gautier
-Lacoste
-Dolce and Gabana
-Narisco Rodrigez
**Keep in mind that perfume does not always smell the same on everyone. Perfumes smell differently on caucasion skin then they do south american skin etc.
**If you go to a good store they can tell you what kind of perfume will smell the best on you.
**If you want to get the best perfume for you go to a store where they have people that are knowlledgeable.
**I was using Lacoste for a long time and a went to a counter and a lady told me (I am Native Hawian Pacific Islander) that Narsico Rodrigez would smell the best on me. And it really did smell a lot better on me. My boyfriend goes nuts!
**So my advice take your time picking out a good one because it will make a difference trust me! Just make sure you don't get caught at a counter where they are just going to try and sell you their product because you are at their counter.
Good luck!

Depends on what you mean by "best". For most diverse, complicated and "expensive smelling" - any of the French houses plus Tommy Hilfiger's "Tommy Girl" For longest lasting and strongest smelling any Estee Lauder or Prescriptives. Check out the fragrance web sites.
