There may be scents that you can apply to your flowers, or around them, that keep the chickens away, though chickens are pretty dumb and it may not work with them.

I use a product called the "Scarecrow" to keep animals away from my garden. It's a motion-activated device to which you connect a garden hose, and when it detects motion, it shoots a short blast of water to scare the animals away. I used the last two summers and didn't lose one vegetable. It's a lot cheaper than putting up a fence (except maybe chicken-wire) ... you can order it from web stores for about $70 before shipping.

As a rule chickens do much more good than harm. They eat bugs that eat flowers. They scratch up the soil. They "fertilize" the soil. Unless they are totally destroying things, leave them to their pecking.

Several ways, you can surround them with chicken wire, or another knee high fence, you can coop up your chickens, you can also plant hardier plants that the chickens will still get in to, but won't damage.

I used to have chickens and the only way I controlled them was fencing in the flowers, or conversely, fencing them in.
