There is a Board Games sub-category in the Games & Recreation category.
But I am with you. Anyone who says that chess is not a sport has not seen my arms flying in the last 20 seconds of a close game of speed chess as I combine strategy, speed, and accuracy (move to an illegal square and you forfeit!). If curling, auto racing, and the equestrian dressage are all sports (and Olympic sports at that!), then chess should certainly be considered a sport!!!

Until you've competed in some major tournaments, you have no idea the kind of energy that goes into playing a 4-6 hour tournament game. Perhaps this is not the case at the lower level, but as a FIDE Master for 3 years, I can tell you that it's one of the most grueling things you can put your body through.
Now should it be recoginized as a sport? Maybe, maybe not. I think it is more physically tiring than many sports in the olympics nowadays (curling definitely comes to mind). The real problem with chess being an olympic sport is the fact that a lot people don't know how to play and therefore it's boring to them.
World Champion Anatoly Karpov once said "Chess is everything: art, science, and sport."

It sounds to me like your question is more about how Chess is categorized under "Yahoo Answers!" rather than whether it is viewed in the real world as more of a game or sport or art. So, if I'm interpreting your question correctly, Chess is in the "Yahoo Answers!" category "Games & Recreation", subcategory "Board Games".

not a sport. always remember that it is only fun and games until somebody gets hurt, then it's a sport!
That said I wish that ther was an online chess thingy somewhere to play a game against a human once in a while.

Because chess is a hobby, not a sport.
There is nothing athletic involved in chess, so therefore it is not a sport.

I would classify chess as a game (board game) rather than as a sport.

no not at all chess is the act of picking up a piece of wood glass etc. and moving it to "take out" other pieces if you get a check mate you win. so it is not a sport at all

chess is a game of wits, cunning, strategy and planning so it is a mental game. to call it a sport--I don't think it quite fits the accepted definition
